Your Average Aussie Sunday?!

This morning dawned clear and cool, but the sun soon warmed things up. Em and I headed out fairly early to visit another of the beach-side towns locally, called Avoca ~ which reminds me of when Paul and I visited Avoca in Ireland a few years’ ago!

The reason we headed there, was first to have breakfast, and then explore the monthly Avoca Markets, a fab and colourful collection of stalls along the edge of the lagoon and beach.

We wandered amongst the stalls, lots of artisan foods and drinks, local crafts, music and a great crowd of people ~ and dogs! We then sat by the beach for a few minutes soaking up the sunshine, before we had to head off.

I have learned that on Saturdays there’s lots of kids sporting clubs, and on Sundays, it’s the adults’ turn. So I had the privilege of standing on the sidelines and watching Em play soccer. She plays for one of the Umina Eagles women’s teams and today were playing away. She told the team they had to win as I’d travelled a long way to watch them… and they did, 4:3! (Em’s the one with the headband)

What I didn’t realise is that Em is their captain this season… and she was awarded the coach’s player of the match, and so got to take home the eagle…

It was fun to do something sort of ‘ordinary’ in terms of Em’s regular week. En route back we popped into a cafe for a smoothie and muffin and returned to the house where Jeff was busy preparing for his parents’ visit later on.

I last saw Sandra and Dick 17 years ago, in the UK, when they came to dinner at my flat in London and were visiting for Em and Jeff’s Wedding Blessing and party on their 1st Wedding Anniversary. It was lovely to see them again and catch up over a yummy meal together.

Markets, sport and family time ~ a pretty normal weekend me thinks!
