Amazing Australia

Well, it’s my final day in Australia and I’m typing this in the airport. I’ve not long said farewell to my gorgeous sister, and did shed a tear when she put me on the airport train ~ it’s been a fantastic, extended time together and already looking forward to the next time.


1st June is the beginning of winter here, so seems an opportune day to head back to the northern hemisphere! But first, I’ve had another full day! This morning Em and I popped to the shops and post office and had a coffee in Umina. Then it was back to the house to finish packing and have a lovely light lunch, before saying farewell to Jeff… and Jasper!

Em and I went into the city, leaving my luggage at Central Station and heading to Circular Quay. Our first stop was the fab roof top cafe at the Museum of Contemporary Art, with its amazing views.



Then we walked around, under the Harbour Bridge, to Pier 2, one of a series of old wharfs which have been done up, to see the most incredible photographic exhibition. It’s called ‘Icons’ and includes 100 of the truly remarkable images taken by Steve McCurry. You may not know his name, but may well recognise his work. 

The pieces are breathtaking and challenging and just, wow! We spent a fab hour or so enjoying them.

Then it was wandering back to Circular Quay, trying to soak in the sights and vibe of this great city ~ who knows when / if I’ll be there again.

We caught the train back to Central Station where I was reunited with my luggage! Em and I had a quick drink together and then we had to go our separate ways as I came out here to the airport and she headed home. Can’t thank her, and Jeff,  but especially Em, for an wonderful holiday 💕

So here I am… checked in and boarding my next flight in about half an hour, to a rather different adventure as I head to Jerusalem, via Dubai and Tel Aviv. Thank you all for travelling with me so far… next post from Jerusalem, inshallah.

    You look lovely and relaxed. Australia has that effect, but I expect it's mainly the beneficial outcome of being with your lovely sister ❤️

    I recognise that image - I am sure it was included in one of the past exhibitions we have had at the Fox Talbot Museum in Lacock. Loving hearing about your adventures, by the way. Safe travels.

Sabbath rest in Galilee…

We’ve enjoyed a very different pace ~ a sabbath rest here in beautiful Galilee, beginning the day with a glorious swim in the lake. With residual warmth in the water, it was a delightful way to begin the day. After showering and breakfast, we sat together on the terrace, overlooking the sea of Galilee, and feasted on a rich meal of fantastic Bible, teaching on women in the parables of Jesus. It was full of insights which have no doubt I will come back to you time and time again ~ such a blessing. Mid morning, we took a short journey around the lake shore to Capernaum. This is a fantastic site, partly because it does not have layers and layers and layers of archaeology, and therefore it’s easier to see the first century remains. After a brief reflection, we had time to explore the various finds, including a first century home, the possible foundations of a synagogue, and a single room building, traditionally thought to be the home of Peter’s mother-in-law, and where a house  church ...

So… the adventure really does begin!

This feels like a long time ago… a rather soggy dog walk first thing!  And then she ‘helped’ me pack - in a dismissive, overseeing kind of way! A few hours later, after lunch and a little time with Mr C, and I find myself at Heathrow Terminal 2,  checked and waiting for the gate number. As Paul says, the joys of travelling - rush to queue! Smooth travelling so far thanks to Sally from Billy Thomas Travel delivering me. Maybe it is beginning to feel a little more real now! As always in my world it’s been a whirlwind to this point, finishing work at 6.30pm yesterday and the being treated to a meal out by the lovely Mr C.   I did have a moment yesterday morning when serving all the members of the church family holy communion, offering them the bread by name, and realising I won’t do this again for 12 weeks… and after that maybe just a couple more times before we move.
